Psychotherapy and Counselling in Central London

Phone 07514067595 for an initial chat or email me

My name is Richard Backes, I'm an experienced and qualified Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist based at 25 Margaret Street, W1W 8RX, 5 mins from Oxford Circus Underground. I provide psychoanalytic psychotherapy and counselling in Central London.

I provide a confidential and safe setting for us to explore past and present feelings and relationships.

By understanding more about yourself, and by developing a greater self-awareness, the aim is to find different ways of thinking about and dealing with painful situations or feelings.

More about Counselling and Therapy and more about My Background/Qualifications. As well as my training as a counsellor and as a psychotherapist I trained, for several years, at the Tavistock and Portman’s Fitzjohn’s Unit working with patients with more complex difficulties.

I offer help for a variety of issues: difficulties in making or sustaining relationships, bereavement, depression, difficulties with sex or sexuality, work related issues, anxiety, divorce, abuse, shame, anger, guilt, lack of self esteem or self confidence and many other issues.

Sessions are 50 minutes long once a week or some times more frequently. All you need to do is give me a call on 07514067595 or email me. The usual cost is £80 per session but can be lower according to individual circumstances. For more about fees click here

Sessions are also available several times a week (at a reduced rate) should we decide this would be helpful.

At your first session with me there will be an opportunity to explore what you want from therapy and whether what I offer is right for you. You are free to decide if you want to continue.

Depression
According to the Mental Health Foundation one in six people are estimated to experience depression in their life time. But the Foundation say this figure is an underestimate as many depressed people don't ask for help or tell anyone. So seeking help is in itself a vital first step. More about Depression

Bereavement
While everyone experiences bereavement differently, there are feelings which can be seen as common to us all. Elizabeth Kubler Ross in her book “On Death and Dying" talks of the “Cycle of Grief” As a rough model "The Cycle of Grief" can help us to find a pathway into and through bereavement. More about: Bereavement

I am qualified both as a Counsellor and as a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist. I work with people on a short-term and a long-term basis. I am a member of the British Psychotherapy Foundation, registered with the British Psychoanalytical Council (BPC). I have a background providing psychoanalytic psychotherapy and counselling in companies and running a specialist therapy service in South London, taking NHS referrals. As well as my private practice I worked, on an honorary basis, at the Tavistock Centre NHS clinic with the Fitzjohn Unit a specialist service for patients with more complex mental health needs.

I am registered with Aviva and Bupa health. I am also a member of the Inner City Centre.
